Key West Fantasy Fest 2024 was a rousing success, with thousands of folks on hand to partake of a myriad of special events and enjoy the generally jubilant party vibe that Key West always delivers. Now Halloween is creeping up on the Island City as another Key West winter holiday season gets underway.

Florida House Representatives have renamed State Route A1A and put Jimmy Buffett on the map. SB 84 sponsor Florida Senator Lauren Book (D): “With this road naming, we are paying tribute to Jimmy not only as a musical icon, but also a fierce protector of Florida’s natural treasures and our precious manatees.”

Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of Florida: That August 30, 2024, is recognized as “Jimmy Buffett Day” in Florida to celebrate the life and music of Jimmy Buffett, whose free-spirited life and significant contributions to national and state culture are commended and celebrated.

Critics say the bill preempts local regulatory capabilities and infringes property owners’ rights.

Booming visitor numbers show that a Key West vacation features on more and more wish lists all the time. In 2023, Florida Keys visitors stayed an average of 5.3 days, and from an estimated 4,451,967 overnight visitors to the Keys, Key West pulled in 46.47%. Not bad for a tiny island!
